Edmond Life Coach: Small Steps Can Lead To Success

As an entrepreneur, you like to do your own thing. But going at it alone is not always the best idea. There comes a time when you need an expert opinion to ensure you and your business reach it’s full potential. And that’s where hiring a life coach or a business coach becomes a smart move. I’ve personally experienced the benefits of hiring a coach in my own business over the past year. Below are ten examples of how hiring a coach can make your business more successful. 1. Get Unstuck and Find Motivation Without a doubt the best thing a business coach can do for your business is get you unstuck. As a business owner, you can get in our own way a lot, and spend a lot of time in your head. So you need someone to pull you out of the funk. No matter how much self-motivation you might have, it seems nearly impossible to yourself to keep going. That outside push from a coach is what you need to get moving and get going. Even if it’s a confirmation of what you were already thinking, a coach can give you that extra jolt you’re looking for. 2. Challenge You to Try New Things As an introvert who runs an online business, I can very quickly become enthralled in my own ideas and goals. This is a comfortable place because you can stay at home in your office all day “creating” and leave the outside world where it is. If you’re anything like me, you know how hard it is to step outside your comfort zone and meet new people or try new things. This is one of best things about having a coach on your side. They will give you a gentle push to explore yourself and your ideas more, while giving you that tough love not to quit. Everything we do in life is intertwined; our finances, our businesses and ourselves. For this reason I’ve worked with both a life coach and a business coach because I needed help getting over my mental and financial blocks. 3. Increase Your Creativity and Income Once I was able to get past my (often self-imposed) roadblocks, my creativity was unleashed and I was able to start brainstorming ideas for better products and services for my customers. A coach will give you the courage to get out of your own way, so you can charge what you’re worth, start a line of products to make more money, or increase your prices. A coach also creates a safe place for you to hash out ideas, test theories and ensure you showcase your work properly. For many of us creatives, it’s hard to brag on ourselves or share our accomplishments, but a coach will help you get past that insecurity. And once you get that ball rolling, it will be hard to stop you! 4. Find Support and Encouragement You’ll be amazed at the things you can accomplish when you have someone who believes in what you’re doing. Having a support system around you or hearing a few words of encouragement can lift your spirits when you’re down. With everything going on around you, it can get overwhelming, frustrating and even lonely at times. A coach will be right there with you the whole time, helping you take that next step towards success. Of course, the point is to get to a place where you have all the tools in your toolbox to handle what life throws at you. But until you’re ready, the encouragement you get from a coach might be just the thing you need to do your great work. 5. Identify Strengths and Weaknesses t’s easy to think that we know ourselves really well, and understand our likes and dislikes. But when it comes to bringing out the hidden talents and deep desires, you’ll likely surprise yourself. It often takes an outside perspective of someone who knows you really well, to tell it like it is. A coach can identify patterns, and help you exploit your strengths while bolstering your weaknesses. 6. Gain More Confidence You’ll never truly know what you’re capable of until you have someone who pushes you outside your comfort zone. After working with my own business coach for over a year, I’ve been able to build up a lot more confidence in my own ideas, thought process and even the way I approach my business. If you’re like me, you know you have greatness within you but you aren’t always sure if it’s a good idea, or something that will get you rejected. It’s hard to convince yourself that you have the ability to accomplish your business goals, and that’s where having a coach is key. They can help instill the confidence you need to accomplish your big goals, while offering support and guidance for your (sometimes not so great) ideas. 7. Establish Audacious But Realistic Goals It’s not difficult to set goals and create dreams and I’m sure you already have multiple ideas for your business listed out right now. But will you ever attain them? With a coach you can! And you better be sure you want to reach a goal because once you mention it, they won’t let you make excuses for not trying. Most times they expect you to reach for the stars, because they can see your potential. As they challenge you to try new things, they will also strongly encourage you to think bigger, jump higher and really go for what you want. Audacious goals are the ones that scare us to death, but for an experienced coach they know it’s closer within reach than you realize. Then once you reach those crazy goals you’ll feel invincible and your confidence will skyrocket! 8. Prioritize Your (Business) Needs First As a business owner it’s easy to put your customers, clients and even your family ahead of your own needs. This is especially evident as a solopreneur or freelance who single-handedly keeps the business going. A business coach will help you prioritize your business in a way that will enable it to be successful, without sacrificing the other parts of your life, including your mental and physical health. Additionally, you could even work with your coach to seamlessly integrate your work into your life. With the technology available today, you have no excuse not to take care of yourself so you can give the best to your business and those around you. 9. Be Accountable to Someone What did you accomplish this week? Are you making progress on your goals? These are standard questions at the beginning of each coaching session that will get you sweating if you haven’t put in the work. A coach is a built-in accountability partner that nudges and reminds you of what you promised to do, and what you’re working towards. It’s all too easy to make promises to ourselves and then break them because we don’t feel like it, or it’s too hard. When you’re accountable to someone else, you don’t have that luxury. If you really want to accomplish your big goals and take your business to the next level, hiring a business coach is the right step. 10. Harness Your Ideas The entrepreneurial mind is a beautiful thing, but it comes with it’s fair share of challenges. One of them being the fact that we have so many ideas, we don’t know where to start. On the flip side, you might be clinging to an idea or direction a lot longer than you should. (Beating a dead horse and all.) Having a coach on your side will help you gain a fresh perspective so you can harness your ideas. They will also allow you to pivot directions if it’s time to move on. A Coach is the Best Investment for Your Business Running a business alone is a tough thing, and I would say nearly impossible to do successfully. You generally need the support of friends, family and colleagues. But in my experience a coach is also a must. It’s like having a best friend who also knows the ins-and-outs of the industry and can share trade secrets with you. They are a valuable resource you can count on and look to when you need guidance or even a friendly ear. Are you having a hard time closing new leads? Hire a coach to help you revamp your marketing campaign. You two can sit down together and hash out your process. Download a free proposal template and do it together; two minds are better than one. Hiring a life and business coach has single-handedly taken my business to the next level. And without that much-needed support, I would probably still be stuck at my day job, hating my life. How To Hire A Life Coach

Do You Know What a Life Coach Does Exactly?

You might be wondering why a business and life coach is writing about not getting hired. This article is a tribute to my personal journey over the past year in working with four different coaches — two professional coaches and two coaches-in-training.

It began in January 2015 when I embarked upon a Leadership and Life Coach training program with my respected friend and colleague, Barb Pierce of Coaching Horizons. There were three of us in the course who met weekly over a period of 10 months. We were coaching each other and clients from the get-go, which allowed me to gain practical experience right away and I was able to receive the benefits of coaching for almost an entire year.

Now I can understand the reasons why someone may NOT want to hire a coach.

Reason #1. You Don’t Want to Change

Change is a natural part of life. If we are not changing, we are not learning and growing. If you are very comfortable with the status quo and do not want to test your boundaries then don’t hire a coach.

A coach is a neutral person who supports you in your growth and will encourage you to see your blind spots that might be holding you back from making changes in your life. If you want different results, then you need to start by looking at yourself.

2015 was a big year of change for me, especially involving breakups — starting with a breakup of a significant relationship — and I was blessed with four coaches who helped me navigate these changes.

Early in the year, the coaching began with my colleagues and the topics I initially brought to the table I felt were pretty safe — when to start dating again, dealing with stress at work, navigating a challenging experience with a friend, etc. It was not long until I realised these were surface issues and the deeper discussion was about me being willing to look at myself openly and honestly, to notice how I was showing up in life and relationships.

As a typically very confident and independent person, it was difficult for me to admit my vulnerabilities in some of the sessions. I have a high respect for my colleagues who showed me this through their actions and words which inspired me to change myself, starting by allowing myself to be more vulnerable in front of others and learning that it’s ok to do so. As a coach, I should have all the answers, right? At least that’s what I previously thought. I’m learning as I go through this life journey, just as we all are.

Reason #2. You Want to be Told What to Do

Coaching is different from consulting. A consultant will typically analyse a situation then, based on their experience and expertise, advise you on what’s best for you, whether it’s in business or your personal life. If you want to be told what to do, step by step, then don’t hire a coach.

A coach will ask questions and will encourage you to examine your values and beliefs to see what’s really motivating you. As a coachee, you end up being accountable for your own actions and you get to set your own tasks that will support you in making the changes you need in order to achieve your goals.

Continuing with the breakup theme, about halfway through 2015 I decided to hire a coach to help me navigate a career change. I had been working in the tech industry for 15 years and felt I had accomplished a lot. I held an executive position in a great company with a wonderful team, yet I was feeling that something was missing. I felt that I had reached the tip of my learning curve and was craving something more. I was contemplating leaving my successful career to pursue coaching full-time, a scary decision at the time. I approached Crystal Lee of Beyond Maybe; as we had met previously, I already liked her as a person and I knew she had experience in working with people facing a similar situation as me.

Crystal did not tell me what to do in order to make this transition. Rather she encouraged me to look deeper at what was motivating me to leave my job and to venture into unknown territory. I asked her to not let me off the hook and to challenge me to keep the big picture in mind. I gave myself action items each time we met and she was there to hold me accountable throughout my journey.

Reason #3. You Are Not Willing to Take a Risk

Risks comes in many forms and are entirely unique to each person. When you are considering doing anything outside of your comfort zone there is some degree of risk involved. If you are not willing to explore possibilities where there is some element of risk then don’t hire a coach.

I’m talking about reasonable risk here. A coach will not blindly suggest you jump out of a plane (unless that’s what you really want to do!). Rather a coach is there to encourage you but also recognises your boundaries and will invite you to face your fears and to explore various possible outcomes.

At the beginning of my engagement with Crystal I was not exactly sure when I would be able to take the plunge to start my entrepreneurial journey, however after about five sessions things had really shifted. The coaching, combined with the tragic loss of a friend in September, was enough of a reminder to me that life is short and I needed to do something that made me really happy. So I took a big risk in December and decided to leave the comfort of my job to venture into the unknowns of entrepreneurship. A decision I’m very happy with so far!

I believe that everyone can benefit from having a coach at some point in their life to help achieve personal and professional goals. Had I not had the opportunity of working with my coaches in the past year I would hazard a guess that I would be repeating the same relationship patterns and probably still working a 9-to-5 job that I was not completely satisfied with. Having gone through my transformation over the past year especially I can relate to the fear and doubt that often creeps in when faced with making changes and I have learned how to overcome this by tuning into my inner wisdom, understanding the workings of my mind and by listening to my heart.

Setting Goals:

Being a visionary is required in a business and without vision, it is hard to survive in the industry. Business Coaching is a way through which business owners can learn to create a vision for a company. By creating a vision statement, employees, shareholders will know the objective and the direction of the business. Thus it’ll ultimately help a business to set and achieve goals in time. So, it is the most important thing that a business owner will learn from the coaching sessions.

Accurate Pricing:

Sometimes business owners while deciding the pricing of their products or services and they use different tactics like discounts, free trials etc to attract a group of customers. But such tactics can be bad for their business process as per their vision and mission. By doing so, there may be negative impacts on the breakeven analysis of the business. Here a Business Coach can help a business owner with multiple business tools like Price Discount Calculator, Break Even Calculator etc. Such tools ensure that that the pricing and discount should be in accordance with the industry and the vision of the company.

Team Engagement and High Productivity:

High productivity in any business can be achieved only when it’s employees will be engaged with each other. There should not be any loopholes in the work process and communication. Sometimes it takes too much effort to deliver high productivity due to lack of the engagement and enthusiasm in the workforce. Business Coach helps business owners to align the employees with the business goals through different engagement processes like Break Down Analysis, Weekly Operation Reviews etc.

To perform all the above-mentioned things is somewhat difficult for a business owner without getting coached by a business coach. Building a business plan, implement it and identifying new business opportunities are the few things which need a assistance from a business guru so that he can recommend necessary changes to make it more efficient.
